Great coverage! Your inclusion of the quote about Satanic rituals provided a chilling parallel. When I first saw an article about this on NBC News, I laughed out loud at the absurdity of the situation. As though looking back to the ancient days of 2017 provided enough of a perspective to completely dismiss Littman's findings. But it's also kind of terrifying to be living in the middle of an insane world and feel alone in recognizing that insanity. Thanks for reminding us that we're not alone.

They should be leading the calls to find out how to help these kids, to review evidence, do follow up, not this!

I have felt a lot of frustration with the poor science and even poorer media coverage on this topic, but this awful “study” and NBC’s coverage of it actually had me feeling despair. It felt like full delusion in the name of maintaining the narrative, gaslighting (and I don’t use that overused word lightly) or outright lying. And why is the AAP accepting this weak science, refusing any conversation, shutting down all debate, and choosing this hill to die on as children everywhere are dealing with all the adverse effects of the pandemic and school closures, gun violence is rising, and childhood vaccination rates continue to fall as we see the first case of polio with paralysis in the US in decades?

The AAP is easily the most evil (I use that word deliberately) of the professional associations. This has been well demonstrated with the overwhelming endorsement of easily disprovable specious claims regarding covid in children -- They have been front and center parroting the government narrative irrespective of good patient care, the facts, or anything that once comprised good medicine.

They appear completely captured by the left wing ideologues and have lost the ability to discriminate between medicine and politics. And, sadly, most pediatricians are personality-wise "followers" (as opposed, for instance to surgeons -- not a value judgement...it is just that different kinds of personalities often pursue specialties matching their life-approach) so they have largely just nodded their heads and parroted the lies.

When there is an accounting of the harms done to the public, especially the children where the lingering effects are the most serious, there needs to be some serious reckoning here. They have done too much "bad" to get the benefit of the doubt anymore. They are clearly captured by someone/something that has nothing whatsoever to do with taking the best possible care of children.
